A young boy who was from a small village in India was playing outside when he happened to stumble upon an injured dog. He quickly ran back home and told his dad about the pup. He knew the animal was in pain and he asked him to call for help, and luckily, he knew to contact Animal Aid Unlimited.
As soon as the organization answered the call, a group of medical responders hopped into their van and drove straight to the address given by the father. Once on-site, the boy showed them where to find the dog. He waited until he was sure the animal was safe.
The dog, named Jitu, later on, hid in a tight spot inside a construction site. Hollow blocks, heaps of sand, and wooden sticks surrounded the area. It was dark, but the rescuers could tell his legs were cut and swollen.
Only one of the responders managed to come close because the room was so small. When he did, he wrapped the dog with a blanket and gently scooped him up. He walked him to the van and then continued to the hospital right after.
At the hospital, the vet team realized there was a string tied tightly on his left front and hind legs. It strained blood flow and they feared his legs were already necrotic. They needed to lightly sedate him before cutting off the strings.
The rescuers flushed and cleaned the dog’s wound and put on compression bandages on his legs to reduce the swelling. They did it every day and a week later, he was ready for his first walk. He limped his way inside the shelter, but he was happy to finally be able to move around.
He suffered agonizing pain for weeks. Every step and every little movement caused him discomfort. But this little guy refused to be defeated and braved his way through the world.
Thanks to the smart little boy who found him, Jitu is alive. He is the reason why he gets to enjoy life longer.
