In the past, Pit Bulls were once considered America’s nanny dogs. Because of their gentle nature and temperament, Pit Bulls were the preferred breed for most households in the United States. Unfortunately, this all ended when Pit Bulls were used in dogfighting rings.
Ever since then, Pit Bulls were stereotyped as violent dogs that are unsuitable as house pets. Thankfully, the stigma about Pit Bulls being vicious dogs is slowly coming to an end with the help of kindhearted people advocating for the breed. A woman named Elizabeth is one of those people and fostered a rescue Pit Bull named Cochi.
When Cochi was first rescued, she was extremely anxious and unsure of her environment. Cochi didn’t trust humans at all and she was shut down and timid when she first came to Elizabeth’s home. During the first night, Cochi even bit Elizabeth’s dog.
Although Elizabeth panicked and was about to consider returning Cochi to the shelter, she understood that Cochi needed a little time to decompress and adjust to her new environment. Elizabeth wanted to do everything she possibly can to help Cochi learn that she’s finally in a safe place.
During the first few weeks, Cochi needed to have a muzzle when she’s around other dogs. After a few weeks of fostering Cochi, Elizabeth started to see Cochi improving. Cochi would start wagging her tail whenever Elizabeth calls for her and she also started to lay down on her dog bed.
Eventually, Cochi learned what it’s like to love and be loved and she was finally allowed to play with dogs with no muzzle. Cochi even started to follow Elizabeth’s dog example on how to be a pet dog. Cochi completely came out of her shell thanks to Elizabeth.
Cochi turned out to be a sweet dog who wanted nothing but love from humans. Cochi just needed time and love to help her understand what it means to be a part of a family. Now, Cochi is ready to find a forever home and Elizabeth is hoping that Cochi finds a family that will love her. Here’s a heartwarming video showing Cochi’s transformation.
