One family’s prayer to celebrate the holidays with their missing dog Scoobee has finally been answered and they’re calling it a Christmas miracle.
As the story went, Scoobee, a Shepard pit mix, was dropped off by her dad Nicholas Chontas at Banfield Veterinarian Hospital on William Penn Highway in Monroeville for a routine appointment. But 45 minutes later, Nicholas received news that Scoobee escaped from the hospital.
According to the hospital, Scoobee was able to break free from two staff members while they were outside and despite being double-leashed. Nicholas and his family have been a customer of the hospital for nine years at the time and Scoobee has been going there her whole life. That was why Nicholas was hurt and never thought that that kind of incident would happen.
Nicholas and the whole family immediately went searching for Scoobee, scouring from Route 22 to the Parkway and everywhere in between. The holiday season was approaching and they were hoping for a miracle that she would be found. They just recently bought a home and just had a baby as well so they really wanted to spend the holidays together as a complete family.
Days passed and with Scoobee still being missing, Nicholas and his wife haven’t been really eating or sleeping. They could definitely feel the empty gap that Scoobee left in their home. On the other hand, the Banfield Veterinary Hospital was doing its best, hiring a search and rescue professional, handing out flyers, and offering a $5,000 reward.
And finally, after almost five days, Scoobee was found healthy and safe. The police managed to track her and she was immediately brought to a veterinarian just to make sure that she did not sustain any injury.
The Banfield Veterinary Hospital issued a statement that they are evaluating and improving their policies to help keep their patients safe. Hopefully, there would no be other incidents like this in the future.
