If you keep your eyes open, you’ll find miracles everywhere. Sometimes, you may ask for a sign that miracles do exist and then you immediately spot an incredible double rainbow. Or you may even notice the little miracles, such as witnessing a friend smile after a long period of sadness.
This dog’s experience is truly extraordinary and a miracle. 12 years ago, he was given only three months to live, and he defied all expectations by surviving. He recently celebrated his 19th birthday and that is a miracle in itself!
The lovely Jack Russell mix, Shakey, was seven years old when he was fostered by a woman named Natalie Gould, 33. The dog was undernourished and shy. He was terrified of humans and refused to even leave his cage.
However, Natalie was able to coax the dog outside by presenting him with a tennis ball. Since then, the two became close through happy games of fetch. And it was quite clear that Shakey likes playing with tennis balls.
Soon after, Shakey developed into a confident and vivacious dog. That’s when Natalie realized how devoted she had become to the dog. Therefore, after a few weeks together, she eventually chose to adopt Shakey.
However, their happiness did not last long. When the veterinarian informed Natalie that Shakey has a malignant growth in his mouth, her heart broke. The vet performed a delicate procedure to remove a small portion of the dog’s jaw.
The veterinarians anticipated Shakey’s cancer would spread after the operation and gave him three months to live. Natalie was even asked if they should go through with a major operation to remove a part of the dog’s jaw, but she declined.
She realized that if Shakey lived three months longer, she would not deny him the opportunity to play with tennis balls. Fortunately, her choice was the correct one. Shakey is still alive and well after 12 years.
