A resident from Nashua, New Hampshire named Roberta Ingham was relaxing outside her house one afternoon when she heard a cry for help. What was strange was that it seemed to be coming from below the ground and was accompanied by the howling of an animal. Despite finding the noise spooky, she got up from her chair and investigated.
She met one of her neighbors on the sidewalk who said she heard the same thing too. Together, they followed the disturbing sound, and they ended up finding a distressed woman and her pet trapped inside the sewer. Roberta called the Nashua Fire Rescue, and they assured the trapped lady that help was on the way.
The story
As it turned out, the woman was walking her dog that day, and her pet ran away. The owner found the pooch inside a sewer pipe. She called out to her pup, but he refused to come out. So she had no choice but to go after him.
She eventually caught her white pooch, but they were already too far down the sewer. They had ventured 150 feet deep into the pipes, and they could not get out. That is when they started yelling for help. It was dark and uncomfortable inside, and the pet owner had to stand in deep sewer water.
The rescue
The firefighters determined the lady’s exact location and opened the nearest utility hole. One of the rescuers squeezed himself inside the tight opening and went down using a ladder. The woman went out after a short while, followed by her dog. By that time, a lot of people had gathered around, and they cheered when the dog owner was rescued.
Thankfully, both the lady and her pet were relatively unharmed. She had several minor cuts and scrapes on her forehead, so they decided to take her to the hospital. The grateful woman was released the same day.
