Disabilities are usually seen as great obstacles that people must overcome. Despite this, a significant number of people with impairments keep a positive outlook and even inspire others to persevere in life.
In Greenville, South Carolina, two beings who shared a quality have become the closest of friends and have inspired one another to overcome their own problems.
It’s not uncommon for dogs and humans to find one because of their situations, but this story has the power to move even non-dog lovers. This is the story of Lieutenant Dan and Sapphyre Johnson.
Sapphyre was born without feet as a result of a birth defect. Despite her condition, the 3-year-old kid maintains a positive attitude.
She participates in multiple treatment sessions at the Shriners Hospital for Children in Greenville, and although she has interacted with a variety of emotional support dogs, she never imagined owning a pet dog who would assist her in life.
Sapphyre has done so well interacting with the emotional support dogs she has met that you could assume she has a dog at home.
Karen Riddle, the fur mom of Lt. Dan, was searching for a new home for her dog. The white German shepherd suffered the same fate as Sapphyre. Lieutenant Dan also lost a front paw because of a congenital illness.
Karen phoned Shriners Hospital and asked if anyone was willing to adopt Lieutenant Dan. As soon as Sapphyre’s mother saw that Lt. Dan was available for adoption, she knew he would be the perfect companion for her daughter.
When the young child was given a photograph of the dog, she became excited. And when Sapphyre and Lt. Dan first met, it was surely instant love for both of them. The dog showed the girl his amputated paw in answer to the girl’s mother’s request to show him the girl’s feet.
