People coming from different countries have their own unique cultures and traditions. While we should always be respectful and tolerant of their cultures and traditions, there are times when some cultural practices need to be stopped.
In South Korea, the summer months are known as the Bok Nal season. During this period, locals consume different kinds of soups. Unfortunately, one of the main ingredients of the soups is dog meat.
There’s an old belief among Koreans that dog meat boosts the immune system, which helps prevent people from getting sick. To this day, many old Koreans still believe that the consumption of dog meat has beneficial properties for their health.
Thankfully, many young Koreans know better and are advocating against this obsolete tradition. Many believe that this old tradition should be discontinued since countless dogs suffer. The dogs used for their meat are usually stray dogs that are caught and kept in cramped and dirty cages on dog meat farms.
Thankfully, Human Society International or HSI is actively putting a stop to dog meat farms in South Korea and other parts of the world. With the help of a local animal rescue organization called Korean K9 Rescue, HSI has saved countless dogs from getting slaughtered and given many of them a loving forever home in the US and Canada.
During one of their rescue operation, HSI and Korean K9 Rescue were able to save the lives of 21 dogs and shut down the dog meat farm where the dogs were being kept. All of the 21 dogs were rescued just in time since they were already scheduled to be slaughtered in three days. After the dogs were rescued, they were taken to the veterinarian where they were assessed, given their vaccinations, and transported to the US and Canada where they will each go to loving families.
All 21 dogs were thoroughly assessed and treated to help them recover. After the dogs recover, they will all become available for adoption. Here’s a video featuring the rescue of 21 dogs from a dog meat farm and their road to recovery.
