Pit bulls have unfairly gained the reputation of being violent and aggressive. But most owners of this breed know they are very gentle, lovable, and sweet. And like most house dogs, they are very loyal and protective of their human family.
Sometimes, their protective nature extends to other people too. This was shown by a pit bull n named Hurley, who was hailed a hero for saving a young boy from a venomous snake. His story became viral through a Facebook post made by his owner’s sister.
Unleashed
According to the post, Hurley was out for a walk with his owner one night. They usually go for their walks at 10 pm because there are no people around. This allows the pet owner to unleash his pooch and let him explore the surroundings.
Hurley absolutely adored sniffing around and taking in the different smells. While enjoying the cool night, they suddenly heard a little boy scream. And before the dog owner could react, the pit bull ran toward the kid.
The owner immediately followed, and when he got near where the boy was, he saw Hurley biting a copperhead snake and flinging it around. In the meantime, the young kid ran towards his mom’s car, and they took off right away.
Bitten
In the meantime, Hurley’s owner called the local authorities and reported what happened. The responders arrived shortly after. They found the snake dead, and when they checked on the pit bull, they saw that he was bitten on the lips, and his face and neck had started swelling.
The dog was immediately taken to a vet, where he got treatment and stayed for the rest of the night for observation.
An investigation by the cops later reported that the little boy had stumbled upon a copperhead’s nest and would have been bitten by the venomous snake if not for Hurley. They didn’t find out the boy’s name or who his mother was. They checked hospital records in their area and didn’t find anyone who came in for snake bite treatments.
