During a road trip, Oklahoma resident Kristina Munford and her family found an abandoned puppy 26 miles from the nearest town when they stopped to take photos near Elephant’s Feet in Tonolea, Arizona. The dog’s face had a gash, he was malnourished, and he could not move from exhaustion. After seeing his condition, Munford decided not to leave him behind.
Munford took the dog with them to the Grand Canyon National Park. It was then that they named him Canyon. However, the pup would not be allowed in the hotels they had pre-booked for the rest of the trip. So, Munford and her family had to drop him off with some relatives in La Jolla, California, before they continued their travels.
Munford said her relatives were more than willing to foster Canyon until they found a suitable family to adopt him. They also started a Facebook page called AZ Canyon to document the pup’s journey and help him search for a forever home.
Munford added that Canyon is adjusting well to his new environment. Currently, he is living peacefully, playing with other dogs, pigs, and people. He also gets to enjoy quiet naps after running around.
Munford went on to say that she could not help but feel sad every time she thought about what Canyon must have gone through before they found him. She said that the pup must have been so scared, lonely, and cold. At least now, with his fosterers, he can finally feel safe and protected.
Munford continues to post updates about Canyon’s progress on the Facebook page. She also encourages anyone who might be interested in becoming the pup’s forever family to visit the page and send them a message. She is very hopeful that he will soon find a family to call his own.
