The war between Russia and Ukraine forced many US soldiers to get redeployed and that came with a major problem. According to a non-profit organization based in Smithtown, New York called Guardians of Rescue, the soldiers were forced to abandon the dogs they rescued overseas.
And so, Guardians of Rescue is stepping in to save these dogs by relocating them to the US.
In particular, Guardians of Rescue is seeking to bring Mattie and Riches, two dogs who have both been rescued by the soldiers in Honduras. According to the organization’s founder and president Robert Misseri, these two are in immediate danger and they need to get them out as soon as possible to ensure their safety.
Mattie and Riches were homeless dogs and they were taken in by soldiers Captain Ridge and Sergeant Silver. The two dogs along with another one, Rags, who unfortunately could no longer be found loved to take shade under the soldiers’ helicopter wing. At first, they were scared but the soldiers were able to gain their trust over time.
Caring for the dogs gave the soldiers a sense of family especially since they were so far from home and it was a welcome respite in an environment of war. And as time passed by, the dogs eventually let their guard down and became friends with all the soldiers at the camp.
The soldiers also protected them from harm but unfortunately, they won’t be able to do so for much longer.
The soldiers are desperate to get both Mattie and Riches to the US where they can find a family who will love them and care for them. Captain Ridge also hopes that once Mattie is out and safe that she gets to have a future as a therapy dog. She has always been a really affectionate dog who loves to bring comfort and smiles to those who need them.
Hopefully, these two dogs will be able to successfully relocate to the US and live a full life.
