Retirement can be a bitter-sweet event in a worker’s life. While we feel happy knowing that we won’t have to wake up early in the morning to commute to work and grind all day, it also makes us sad that we will be leaving the work that we have known to do for years and years – and of course, the people who have been with us through those years.
Retirement is not only for humans. Animals who are trained for certain types of work, especially service and police dogs, also deserve retirement so that they can enjoy a more carefree life.
For the Port of Seattle K9 Unit, it was only proper to send off their very own explosive-detecting dog with a retirement party.
That special K9 is none other than the 9-year-old black Labrador, Milo.
Once Milo retires, he will be living with his handler and partner, Sgt. Chris Lewis.
Milo celebrated his retirement party at the Seattle Airport with the people he worked with throughout his carrier.
And of course, a retirement party is nothing without a cake!
A special cake that was smothered in peanut butter and bacon was made especially for Milo, and we’re pretty sure he can’t wait to have a go at it.
There was even a big card where everyone who knew and worked with Milo wrote send off messages to the loyal police K9. This only goes to show how valued Milo is to his coworkers.
Before he heads off to retirement, there’s no doubt that Milo enjoyed the party that was thrown just for him.
And while it’s certainly sad to see him leave his buddies at the airport, they are happy knowing that Milo will be living the rest of his life full of love and happiness, surrounded by the people that truly love him.
