Mailmen have the best jobs in the world. They’re paid to explore new places, drive around the city and deliver packages that will make people happy. Aside from people, they also get to meet dogs while on their daily route. Most of these mailmen have canine friends they look forward to seeing every single day.
Among these mailmen is Twitter user @amorningsting’s father, who enjoys giving treats to every dog he meets. Some would bark at him at first, but once they see the bag of treats, they can’t stop wagging their tails. He’s every dog’s favorite mailman, and their owners love him just the same.
Paying it forward
The mailman was going about his daily route one day when one of his regulars, the Cimino family, gave him a heartbreaking note. Gretchen, their German Shepherd, crossed the rainbow bridge, and they decided it would be best to let the mailman know. They were aware of the special relationship Gretchen had with him.
The family wanted to honor Gretchen and pay it forward, so they handed the mailman a bag of treats along with a note. They talked about how Gretchen wanted them to ask him to share the treats with other dogs on his daily route. The family also shared how the German Shepherd was always happy to receive treats from the mailman.
It seemed like Gretchen was asking him to do one last thing for her. Although it was painful, he decided to grant her request.
Missing Gretchen
It was such a bittersweet moment for the mailman and Gretchen’s previous owners. Heartbroken, the mailman, bid the Cimino family goodbye and went on with his day. He shared the news with his daughter, along with a photo of the note and treats. He shared that Gretchen may be a huge German Shepherd, but to him, she was a teddy bear.
