While some dogs do not possess conventional puppy qualities like cuteness, people should realize that they are still dogs that long for human companionship. These “ugly” dogs need love, too.
Thankfully, some families are willing to accept dogs that are unique in their own ways. Scamp the Tramp, for one, had a loving family that took care of him. They even supported him when he joined a competition.
Just last year, Scamp had earned a title for himself. He was hailed as the World’s Ugliest Dog. Despite this title, he still had the charm that could make people go “Awww!”
Scamp the champ
It was announced that Scamp the Tramp won the first prize at the World’s Ugliest Dog Competition held in Petaluma, California. It was a “ruff” competition, as he had to battle with over a dozen other dogs.
As the champion, Scamp had some big winnings. He took home $1,500 in prize money. He was given another $1,500 that would be donated to a chosen shelter. Scamp also won a trip to New York for, so he could appear on TODAY show.
Other than his unconventional looks, Scamp won because he charmed the judges with his great personality. This was according to Yvonne Morones, Scamp’s owner.
The life of Scamp
According to Scamp’s profile on the competition’s website, he was rescued by his owner from a shelter in Los Angeles. Before that, Scamps lived on the streets of Compton.
Yvonne said that picking Scamps was the right choice. As they sat in the car like two strangers, Yvonne had a feeling that Scamps had found his forever home.
Scamp the Tramp was easily recognized because of his distinct coat. His hair naturally grew gray dreadlocks in a messy away. No amount of hair conditioner could tame the tresses.
For the past eight years, the pup served as a pet therapist. He would visit the Sebastopol Senior Center regularly. He would also volunteer in first-grade classrooms where he would listen to students reading to him.
