Mathilda Swan was a seven-week-old English Bulldog puppy that weighed less than one pound. Her new parents were unsure whether she would survive, so they lived every day like it was the last.
Mathilda’s story
Mathilda’s head was three times the size of her body. She was acutely malnourished to the point that the lining her ribs and hips could be seen
When Jamie, the woman that adopted Mathilda, first brought the dog home, she was so sickly that Jamie and her family didn’t know how long she could survive. Jamie did not want to get her hopes up too high since Mathilda was in critical condition.
Road to recovery
Mathilda’s progress had a slow start, but after three weeks, the puppy was able to stand and walk on her own. Then, Jamie started to let Mathilda integrate more with their older dogs.
Roo, one of Jamies’s dogs, loved Mathilda. They quickly formed a bond. Mathilda got a bit bolder and barked a bit louder as the days passed.
Three months later, Mathilda’s progress became even more evident. She started to got more affectionate and also gained some weight.
Jaimie fostered a sick puppy named Twinkie. It was the first time Mathilda got to be a big sister, and it was no surprise that they quickly got along.
Mathilda and Twinkie loved to wrestle and play. They would spend their days chasing each other and then end up snuggling on the couch.
Jamie felt that Mathilda was a perfect dog. When Jamie started doing humane education at some schools, Mathilda became a great ambassador. She may not look like a regular bulldog, but she knows how amazing she is, and she loves herself. Jamie wanted to share to the whole world that dogs like Mathilda were able to be who they are because they are loved.
