With the onset of the pandemic, many have found their lives to be altered. A lot of people are now working remotely from the comfort of their homes during the COVID-19 lockdown. In addition to humans, some dogs had to change their routines as well.
A Labrador Retriever, Jordan, has also transitioned to working online. The 5-year-old canine is a Certified Facility Dog with two years of training, and he is currently working for a Children’s Advocacy Center in Seminole, Florida.
The lockdown has stopped the pooch from meeting the children in person, but it couldn’t stop the dog from connecting with the kids online. The dog continues to bring her special kind of support to the kids through the internet.
The advocacy center has children coming in who have suffered abuse in the past and need emotional support and healing. The center offers numerous child support services, including medical trauma support, child protection, and mental health services. The mission of the center is to protect kids and prevent child abuse.
Denis Conus, the center’s mental health program director and Jordan’s handler, told an online magazine that the dog is involved with all of the programs that the center offers. However, the pooch’s main duty is to spend time with kids who are receiving trauma therapy. These are kids who were subjected to both emotional and physical suffering and belong to different ages.
Kids who suffer from abuse are prone to developing psychological problems. The center offers therapy to such children to make them recover from the mental damage caused by their past experiences.
Denise told reporters that in a normal therapy session, the dog has many responsibilities to cater to. Besides providing stress relief, the dog is a part of some structured activities that have been designed to reach specific therapeutic goals.
Jordan has already helped many children, and she continues to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable kids at the center.
