Rescuers in a small town in India witnessed the amazing recovery of a dog who they thought would not survive a life-threatening condition. The said dog suffered an infected wound, infested by maggots. Rescuers thought that the situation would cause the poor animal his life. Miraculously, the dog survived and is now living his best life!
The non-profit organization Animal Aid Unlimited in India received reports of an abandoned dog in Udaipur City in Rajasthan, West India. Arriving at the said location, volunteers were shocked to see a dog, who they later named Teddy Bear, with a gaping wound at one side of his face. Maggots already infected the right cheek and upper lip of the dog.
Teddy’s wounds looked like they were from a fight with a fellow tray dog. But since no one owned the poor dog, the cut got infected and grew worse as the day goes by. According to Claire Abrams- Myers, most wounds would heal on its own. Bad luck struck Teddy when he got it during “fly season” in India. Flies laid their eggs everywhere to infest and feast on live flesh.
Animal Aid Unlimited volunteers knew how bad the situation is for Teddy. Some dogs with maggot-infested wounds die only after a week. The rescuers picked Teddy up and brought him to the shelter. They saw and heard the agony of the stray dog. There, they expressed their doubts about whether or not the animal could survive.
Still, the rescuers did everything they can to save Teddy. The whole team prepped the dog for treatment and sedated him. They cleaned the wound, removed all the maggots, and got rid of a lot of dead tissue from Teddy’s face. They all thought he could not make it. But because of the volunteers’ persistence and Teddy’s will to live, the dog survived!
For the next few months, volunteers of Animal Aid Unlimited helped Teddy on his way to recovery. According to Claire, she is so proud of Teddy’s healing and his determination to come through. His scars are reminders of the suffering he experienced in the past and the promise of a great future ahead.
