Last August, Hurricane Ida ravaged Louisiana through its 150 mph winds and torrential rains. After almost two months, Louisianans are still reeling from the massive destruction caused by the hurricane. But despite this, there is a story of hope, including that of a dog survivor.
Ryan Mitchell was helping in the search and rescue operations back in September when his crew came across a dog. Ryan, a national guard captain, immediately fell in love with the dog.
When they found the German Shepherd, he was drenched with mud and dirty water. The first thing that Ryan and his team did was to give him water. With no access to clean water in the past days, the dog gratefully accepted the drink.
Ryan then brought the dog to a local vet to ensure that the dog was safe from any harm. At the clinic, the vet who checked on the dog cleared him of any health issues. Ryan then asked the vet if the dog had a microchip. This is for him to help reunite the dog with his owners.
However, the dog actually did not have a microchip. With this development, Ryan was left with no choice but to take the dog under his custody. After all, he was fond of dogs.
Since there was no available information about the dog, Ryan named him Caesar. According to the national guard captain, the name is derived from the callsign of the rescue mission.
Before bringing the dog home, Ryan ensured that Caesar had enough supplies. As such, he spoiled the dog with toys and treats. Along with his girlfriend, Ryan is helping Caesar overcome the stress he underwent due to the hurricane.
As long as no one claims Caesar as their dog, Ryan will take good care of the dog. But if ever someone claims Caesar, Ryan will gladly surrender him to his rightful owner. Ryan said this would sadden him, but it is the right thing to do.
