This story of Ruby reflects the saying, “In every tragedy, there’s great aftermath.” Read on to know how an underdog like her ended up with the sweetest ending.
Ruby, a boxer mix dog, was only nine-month-old when she encountered a terrifying incident: a family member used a shotgun on the poor dog in their home.
It was August 21, Thursday, when the Fourth District Officers in Wheaton, Maryland, received a call from someone about a gun shooting. When the police broke into the scene, the boxer mix was bloody and barely breathing.
With the help of veterinarians from Kindness Animal Hospital, they successfully performed the first session to save Ruby’s life. However, they claimed that Ruby should go through several extensive medical cares to recover fully.
The poor canine received severe injuries from the shooting that Ruby’s family could no longer shoulder the costs. The initial decision of the family was to euthanize the dog. They were later on convinced by Officer Noah Leotta to surrender Ruby to the hospital rather than to perform a mercy killing.
In terms of Ruby having a new home, some of the hospital staff claimed that it would be difficult for Ruby to find a loving home. It was due to her appearance after the incident. There is also the possible need for extreme supervision due to her injuries on her neck and jawbone.
But the most extraordinary thing happened. Ruby got adopted by someone who has no experience in caring for dogs. Not only that, but that someone is also a veterinary and Ruby’s main doctor!
Out of all the adoptable dogs Doctor Zolkiewicz has encountered, he just happens to fall for the most unlikely candidate as a pet. Amazing how life worked out for Ruby despite her past, appearance, and special needs!
