Jackson is a three-year-old Golden Retriever that waited for almost half a year for someone to adopt him. And when Steve Moore met him, he wondered why nobody wanted this very lovable pooch.
A month after he got adopted, Jackson is now very much beloved by the people that he meets.
Every day training
Ever since Jackson went home with Steve, the two would do training every day. Although the man admits that he is not a professional trainer, his patience has helped make the Golden Retriever understand his commands. Plus, it also helped that the dog was smart.
One of the first tricks that Steve taught his new dog is to stay in place. He wanted Jackson to become obedient and listen to his commands.
At first, he would let him wait for a short while.
And as their training progressed, the longer the wait time became. And when he was confident enough, he brought their training to another level.
Steve brought his dog to a high-traffic area where there were people walking and there was a lot of noise. He wanted him to learn how to ignore the distractions and focus on his command. Once again, he started with a short wait time and extended it over time. And when Jackson learned to focus on his orders, he even tried hiding and watching from a distance.
Beloved
There would be times when Steve would go inside a store and leave Jackson outside. He would have a sign on his neck telling people that he is waiting for his dad to come out. People absolutely fell in love with the dog. They were amazed at how obedient he was.
They would rub his head and even take pictures with him. Many have also said that they want to take Jackson home. But Steve is not worried. Even if they tugged or pulled him, the dog would not leave his spot.
Jackson became very popular in their town and has been featured by many news outlets. This just goes to show that shelter dogs are more than what they seem.
