Collisions with cars cause the majority of injuries in stray dogs. Because there’s no one to take them to the veterinarian or care for them, many dogs needlessly die due to their injuries. Some that survive live with disabilities caused by the injuries they sustained from the accidents.
In Houston, Texas, a stray dog named Nala was found by animal rescuers with an injury that was likely caused by getting hit by a car. One of her back legs was injured, which caused her to limp. Thankfully, Nala wandered into a group of people who took pity on her and helped.
Nala was rescued after she wandered into a church. When the people at the church saw her, they immediately took her to an animal shelter. After an assessment by the veterinarian, Nala’s injured leg needed to be amputated. Unfortunately, the animal shelter couldn’t pay for the surgery, which meant that she was automatically placed on the euthanasia list.
Thankfully, an animal rescue organization called Lance McCullers Foundation learned about Nala and volunteered to pay for her veterinary care and surgery. Thanks to the leg amputation, Nala was no longer in pain. After her surgery, Nala was brought into a foster home for a month to recover.
While Nala was recovering, a woman from Colorado named Beth saw her story online and followed her progress. Beth already fell in love with Nala and applied for her adoption. When Nala was strong enough, she was transported to Colorado, where Beth was waiting for her to arrive.
Despite meeting for the first time, Beth and Nala greeted each other like they already knew each other. Beth was overcome with emotion when she was hugging Nala. Nala was also very excited, and her tail was wagging nonstop when Beth was giving her cuddles.
Nala may be missing a leg, but she still lives life to the fullest. She often goes on hiking adventures with Beth and proved to be a great hiking companion. She’s also very good at zoomies despite missing a leg. Nala’s disability never slowed her down.
Although Nala didn’t have a great start in life, she’s now living a great life with an amazing family. Beth makes sure that Nala is always happy and that all her needs are met. Here’s a video featuring Nala’s story and how she was saved from euthanasia and given a second chance to be happy.
