Peter Koska was driving his car to work one day when he noticed a car in flames. The burning vehicle was parked outside an apartment building, and the Dedham, Massachusetts resident saw three dogs trapped inside.
As he saw that there was no one trying to help them, Peter stopped his car and rushed to get them out. The vehicle could explode any moment, but he didn’t care. All that mattered at that moment for him was to get the dogs to safety.
Risky rescue
Fortunately for the dogs, the car’s doors were unlocked. The hood was on fire, and it hadn’t spread to the cabin yet. Two dogs quickly jumped out when the door was opened, but the third one was too scared to move. Peter had to dive inside to reach the terrified pooch.
Realizing that the dogs might run away, Peter tried to go back inside the vehicle to grab their leashes. But before he could get them, the engine had a small explosion. The brave man quickly ran away. So did one of the dogs.
With the help of other residents, they were able to catch the runaway dog and kept all of them at a safe distance. Firefighters soon arrived in the area and quickly extinguished the fire before it could cause more damage.
Grateful
As it turned out, the vehicle was owned by a dog sitter. She was inside the building getting another dog when the fire started. They were unsure what caused the flames, but authorities said it was most likely due to a mechanical issue.
The dog sitter was so grateful for Peter’s help. And so were the dogs’ owners. They were relieved to hear that their pets were not injured and hailed the brave men as a hero for saving them.
