It was an easy decision for Lisa Vanderpump to join as a celebrity judge in Pooch Perfect. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, the 60-year-old reality star spoke about her role in ABC’s dog grooming competition and provided details about how she came to join the show. Above anything else, it was her love for canines that might have influenced it.
In an exclusive, she said how she has been vocal about her love for dogs through the years. She mentioned that when people think of dogs or people who are particularly attached to dogs, she would be on top of their minds. She cited how she has proven her love for the canine through the years, which included speaking in front of Congress to enact animal rights laws. This led her to create a nonprofit dog rescue called the Vanderpump Dog Foundation.
Vanderpump also said that it took her at least five seconds to decide when ABC approached her for the judging stint. She said that coming from a place of rescue where she has seen many dogs get treated poorly, it was a breath of fresh air to see newly groomed pets!
Pooch Perfect premiered last month on ABC. Vanderpump is joined by Dr. Callie Harris and Jorge Bendersky in the panel, as they judge and rank canines with intricate hairstyles, as created by some of the country’s top groomers. They are all competing heavily for a cash prize, as well as the most-coveted Pooch Perfect trophy for first place. The reality series is hosted by Rebel Wilson, whose family is known for being dog-showers.
According to Vanderpump, Pooch Perfect is a series that the whole family can enjoy together. From an observation that there are a few shows that families can watch together which have a feel-good factor, she said that their show isn’t focused on dogs alone and about the groomers and their journey.
Vanderpump adds that she loves being a judge for the show because they are being treated nicely by everyone at ABC—but maybe not as well as they are treating the dogs, though! Regardless, the reality star said she loves every second of being a part of it!
The proud fur-mommy concludes by emphasizing how much she loves dogs and thinks the world of them. She also lauded all the people involved in their show and said that they have the best groomers in the country who appreciate dogs.
That’s the most important thing, right?
