The dog meat trade in Indonesia is illegal. However, some people still engage in the trade, and many dogs suffer because of them. Despite the efforts of local animal activists, the trade persists because the local government does not strictly enforce the law.
A mixed breed named Mo was a victim of the illegal meat trade in Bali, and she barely escaped. Someone found her helpless in a gutter. She could hardly move because her back legs were tied together, and her mouth was taped shut.
It was a miracle that she survived for two weeks in the drain before she was discovered. No one knew how she ended up in there. They could only surmise that she might have fallen off the trader’s vehicle. Luckily, someone found her and called for help.
Rescuers from a nonprofit organization called Mission Pawsible came to get her as soon as they got the news. They rushed her to the vet clinic because she was in very bad shape. She was emaciated and apparently in pain.
Mo’s snout suffered great damage because it had been taped for a long time. She underwent major surgery to reattach the skin on her snout. She came out of the surgery without complications. Soon, she started feeling better and began to wag her tail at her rescuers.
Mo felt that she was in a safe place and started to bond with the other animals and the workers at the shelter. She retained her sweet personality even though she had been through a harrowing experience at the hands of humans.
Mo stayed in foster care to recover from her surgeries. After two months, she was adopted by a couple named Debby and Brian. On her first night with them, she slept for 10 hours straight. Evidently, Mo knew that she was finally home, where she would always be safe.
