High school students from Shelby County in Alabama have decided to use an actual dog to play the part of Sandy in their production of Annie. To add to the authenticity of the scenes, they even went so far as to source the dog from a local shelter. After all, the musical play is all about acceptance, kindness, and second chances that everyone especially the rescue dogs surely deserve.
Their theater teacher, Kathryn Myrick who is an animal lover totally supported their plan. They also had no difficulty in choosing the perfect canine actor because one student is a regular volunteer at the Shelby County Humane Society. Savana Tarwater immediately thought of one of the sweetest and gentlest dogs in the rescue center, Triton.
The seven-year-old pooch has been surrendered to the shelter by his previous family when they had a new dog. Triton Daniel has been abandoned, but he has remained cheerful and sweet. The adorable Husky/Boxer mix can surely relate to Sandy’s role in Annie.
Savana trained Triton and brought him to the school during rehearsals. While everyone worked hard to make sure that their acting skills are perfect, the charming pooch was a natural star. This endeared him more to the students that Kathryn revealed that their new goal became finding Triton a new forever home. They planned to include an appeal for Triton’s adoption at the showing of the musical.
However, thanks to the publicity of Triton’s involvement at the show, he was offered a forever home days before the play was supposed to be shown. Triton will go home to his excited new family after the last show. No one is happier than Kathryn and the students who learned about the beauty of second chances and positivity not only from the play Annie but also firsthand by helping Triton get his well-deserved happily ever after.
