Although people today are choosing to adopt shelter dogs, there are still many of these animals that are left behind. For the dogs that live in kill shelters, their life is always in danger.
Kill shelters often keep count of how many days a dog has been with them. If a dog doesn’t get adopted in a specific number of days, they are scheduled for euthanasia. Sadly, this is how most animal shelters work since they are usually overcrowded and they need to make room for other rescue dogs.
A Labrador Retriever mix named Tucker was already scheduled for euthanasia. Tucker was being kept in a shelter in Cashmere, Washington and he wasn’t so lucky to find people willing to adopt him.
Since Tucker wasn’t getting any interest from animal shelter visitors, he was scheduled for euthanasia. Luckily for him, the Seattle Mariners were looking for a new clubhouse dog. When the management of the Seattle Mariners heard about Tucker, they immediately jumped into action and contacted the shelter expressing their interest in adopting Tucker.
Tucker’s life was saved and he found a new forever home with a huge family to give him love. He was also given the best job. Tucker is the first dog ever to become the Seattle Mariners clubhouse dog. His job is to give the players and fans love and snuggles.
The players of the Seattle Mariners loved the idea of having such an adorable to greet them before and after a game or during practice. Tucker’s training to become the best clubhouse dog involved catching balls and doing zoomies around the baseball field, which he definitely loves to do.
The Seattle Mariners team is also bringing awareness to their fans by reminding everyone that there are plenty of dogs like Tucker who need a forever home. The general manager for Seattle Mariners, Scott Servais, stated that they hit a home run with Tucker.
The players are happier and look forward to going to practice thanks to Tucker. Even during the most stressful days, Tucker always makes people in his new home smile. Here’s a video featuring Tucker’s story, which will surely encourage people to adopt dogs from animal shelters.
