The traffic light just turned red in a busy intersection in Tampa Bay, Florida, when 26-year-old Celina Romera saw a dog from her left peripheral vision bark at the car in front of her. Later, the driver – a man with a black hoodie – got out of the vehicle. He headed towards the car on his left, his eyes focused on something on the window.
She braced herself for what she was about to witness as she took out her phone and captured the moment with its camera. It was easy to anticipate an upcoming confrontation that would escalate into a fiery verbal dispute – but that wasn’t the case, and, fortunately, it wasn’t even close to that.
The dog on the other car, a German Shepherd, had its head out the window, eagerly waiting for the man going in his direction. The guy carried something tiny and fragile in his arms, his movements gentle and careful – it was a small puppy with coffee-colored fur.
The German Shepherd probably sensed the puppy and was eager to have some playtime. Thankfully, the man with the puppy saw it as an opportunity for the two dogs to have a little meet-and-greet, albeit in an unlikely setting.
The man offered the tiny pup to the other dog without hesitation. The worst-case scenario is that this may end poorly if the German Shepherd found the gesture threatening – as if getting out of the car in the middle of the road isn’t already risky enough!
The German Shepherd, surprisingly, licked the little puppy with enthusiasm. The puppy, on the other hand, looked quite thrilled about it as well. Romera couldn’t help but coo at the sight unfolding in front of her.
On the other hand, the guy seemed charmed by the whole interaction, but before he could fully enjoy the moment, he knew he had to go back to the car promptly. He gave the German Shepherd one final scratch on the head before they headed back to the car. Luckily, the guy just made it in time when the lights turned green.
The German Shepherd didn’t seem ready to leave, as half of his body was still outside the window! But when the cars in front began to move, so did the vehicle where the big canine was. The man with the puppy, on the other hand, took him a few more seconds before he started moving and gaining speed. Luckily, Romera was right behind him, who said to herself to take his time.
Plenty of things could have gone wrong during that moment: First, making friends with somebody during traffic will make all the other horns beep. Second, going out of the car during a red light is dangerous, especially if you hold something as fragile as a puppy. Lastly, offering a pup to a German Shepherd might be a little too risky, but luckily, the man and the puppy got to meet a friendly one. The German Shepherd’s owner also never appeared in the video; one can only imagine his reaction!
Romera uploaded the video on Facebook, gaining thousands of reactions. Watch it below:
