Looking for a potential adopter for a pooch is a difficult task. Two of the most challenging group of dogs to be adopted are those who are old and who are sick. This dilemma is understandable because most dog adopters would want to foster healthy and young dogs. However, since this prejudice exists, dogs who are older and with health-related concerns are often left behind.
Retired military dogs who served the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio is facing this dilemma. The military officers are knocking on the hearts of kind individuals to provide homes to these retired military dogs. For the military personnel, these military dogs deserve a loving home after serving the country and its citizens.
Chief Officer Jason Silvis noticed that they are facing problems with their older military dogs when it comes to adoption. Officer Jason mentioned that they do not meet the same problem with younger military dogs.
Officer Jason said that younger dogs do not face this kind of discrimination. However, the case is different from older dogs as potential adopters shrug off the idea of adopting them.
While heartbroken, Officer Jason could not force someone to adopt the older dogs. This is why he, along with the help of other volunteers, is working hard to look for adopters to their retired military dogs.
According to Officer Jason, his group is looking for potential adopters for at least seven retired military dogs. These dogs are aged 10 to 13 and are already at the twilight of their lives.
But even with their old age, these dogs can still show their light side as well as their loyalty. The group is home to different dog breeds like German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, and Labrador Retrievers. Officer Jason said that anyone could adopt these dogs as long as they submit the needed paper works for the adoption.
These doggies make awesome loyal companions! π
