It was an average day as a volunteer for the shelter when Paula Peek saw something that broke her heart. Since then, she’s begun the mission to make a safe space for disabled dogs.
Story begins
When Paula went to pick up puppies that were delivered to the shelter, her eye went towards a tiny dog. She saw that the dog was unable to walk and that the other people were preparing him to be euthanized.
Almost instantly, Paula said that she would not take the puppies if she weren’t allowed to take that dog home. She named the dog Weeble, and he started it all.
After a while, Weeble taught himself how to walk and run fast. Paula was so proud to prove everyone wrong.
Paula realized the vast difference that she made. There was a huge need for more people like her that would care for puppies that needed her help.
The goal
Paul started taking in more hospice dogs. Most of which had trauma from being abused or abandoned. In total, she had precisely twenty dogs, all of which have special needs.
If it weren’t for her, the likelihood of these dogs getting adopted was low. All of her rescues had their own unique stories and personalities that made Paula love them.
It takes a lot of love to care for twenty dogs. Paula gets up extra early each day to feed, medicate, and make sure all the dogs are settled before she leaves for work. When she gets home, it’s the same routine all over again.
All her canines make her feel safe and loved. They made her realize that there is hope for everyone.
Not everyone knows the capability of these dogs to improve themselves further or have longer lives because they are immediately disregarded. Paula has a heart of gold for dedicating her life to saving these lonely canines.
